Current Activities
- The establishment of a computer based e-learning centre for the University of Benin.
- Sponsoring teachers from every State through the Tafawa Balewa Teacher Training Award Scheme to upgrade their skills and qualifications through courses organised by the National Teachers Institute, Nigeria.
- Supporting the maintenance and development of a secondary school in Ankpa, Kogi State founded by a former VSO volunteer. Now with over 400 students the school continues to achieve considerable GCSE level of success.
- Assisting in the construction and establishment of a girl's secondary boarding school in Umutu.
- Part-sponsoring VSO volunteers to undertake placements for teaching assignments, teacher training or development of school inspectors.
- Providing scholarships for three students at universities in Nigeria and grants to two Nigerian students attending universities in the UK.
- Sponsoring a major research project to study the effects of environmental change and inter-group conflict. Directed by the Federal University of Technology at Yola, it involves funding two MSc students, ancillary staff and equipment over a two-year period.

Purpose
The broad aim of the Educational Trust is to advance the education of
Nigerian students and to assist in the provision of resources and facilities for
education in Nigeria.
The principal objects are:
- To assist Nigerian students with scholarships and grants for maintenance or for the purchase of books and other educational materials.
- To encourage and support teacher training and development in Nigeria.
- To undertake major educational projects in Nigeria including the financing of learning or teaching equipment for universities, assisting in the establishment of new schools or technical institutes and in the upgrading of facilities at existing schools.
- To raise awareness of Nigeria's history, culture and geography by funding students to undertake cultural research in Nigeria.
It is a commitment of the Trust to endeavour to increase the level of support given to the education of Nigerians which, it believes, is a vital component in the successful development of their country.
Resources
As a general policy, disbursements are limited to the level of income generated on an annual basis. However, some major projects may be part-funded out of capital.The Trust derives a valuable and regular income through the annual subscription of its members. Additional income is realised through its investments and from corporate sponsorships while the sale of the Trust's charity Christmas card and other merchandise provide an important extra contribution.
Personal donations or bequests are immensely valuable and may be made either by Gift Aid, Deed of Covenant, Bankers Order or cheque. Further information on how to donate may be found on the Membership and Donations page.
